In 2010, after difficult life trials, I found myself in India for the first time in search of a Miracle. In the Indian ashrams "Prasanthi nilayam" in Putaparthi and "Sri Aurobindo" in Pondicherry, where I received the nickname (Gandhi), I had to live among many pilgrims seeking their way to God and trying to learn to be in harmony with the world and their destiny. Endless darshans in the temples of ashrams, accompanied by chants of bhajans, meetings with unique people, their personal stories and their attitude to their lives led me to understand that there is a Miracle inside every person and I do not need to look for a Miracle in ashrams and monasteries. The deep realization of a very simple truth that despite any trials one must be able to sincerely enjoy life, follow one's destiny, love and thank your loved ones for their love, changed my future life and influenced my creativity.
Every winter I began to come to India for sunshine and the unique color of South Indian landscapes. I liked the small ancient city of Gokarna, by the sea, located in the state of Karnataka, in which, according to legend, God Shiva appeared from the ear of a cow to the earth. In 2015 I took part in the first watercolor biennial in Delhi, India. Then there was a large exhibition "Bright Colors of Gokarna" 2017, at the Embassy of the Republic of India in Moscow. The exhibition became a report of several years of creative travels to India and at the same time my gratitude to this wonderful country and its people. Plein airs in India gave me a new attitude towards color and a different understanding of color harmony, which I am now trying to convey in my watercolor paintings. In 2015, I created an Internet project "Creative Travel", for the coordination and mutual assistance of artists going to the Plein air in India
The result of this work was a new exhibition at the Embassy of the Republic of India, "Colors of India" in 2019. Being both a participant and a curator of the exhibition, I invited my friends, artists and their students, whose work is associated with India, to participate in it. It was possible to unite completely different artists in one exhibition space, from those who started their career, to the People's Artist of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Sandzhiev, who kindly took part in our exhibition project. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation, Mr. D.B. Venkatesh Varma highly appreciated our plein air project, its importance in the development of cultural ties between friendly countries India and Russia, expressed sincere warm words of gratitude to the exhibition participants for their creativity and talent , deep interest and love for India. Mr. Ambassador noted, "During the exhibition, the exhibition hall turned into a temple dedicated to the love between India and Russia, expressed through paintings by artists from Russia." At the direction of the Ambassador, with the financial support of the Cultural Center of the Embassy of India in Russia, a catalog of the exhibition "Colors of India" was published, including all the paintings presented at the exhibition. While I still have the strength and time, I will try to capture the beauty and diversity of the world seen in my paintings, invariably following my sense of beauty and my understanding of pictorial harmony.
Regards, Artist Polyakov K.G. (Gandhi)
